Rain

RAIN

Falling towards the embrace of Mother Earth
Little droplets
The essence of life
It provides, yet it destroy
Farmers rejoice, others cry

The tears from Heaven
Their might divine
All consuming yet fertile
Without them life will not thrive

O Almighty rain!

Barbecue at Aunt’s house

17 12 2006

My dinner on Saturday almost completely consists of barbecued food. Chicken wings, sausages, corn and the likes of it. The 1 hour plus car ride preceding the barbecue from JB to Kluang was mostly through remote, winding country roads. The scenery was supposed to be good. Maybe its me that can’t appreciate it, but I have to say that I don’t find much beauty in vast palm estates. They seem more suitable for a scene in a horror film…

And when we finally arrived at the small town my aunt’s family resides in, we discovered that her house is surprisingly difficult to find, partly due to the vague directions given by the hosts. They don’t seem to find the use of street names to pinpoint a place feasible and keeps trying to provide the locations by naming some not-so-obvious landmarks. Even going as far as to metaphorically describe a relatively large house as the “White House”. Lame actually…

Finally, we noticed the road my aunt lives on, which is pretty hard as the sign is covered over by vegetation. For all that trouble we went to to find her house, the food and fun may be described as a good consolation.

We had fun barbecuing the food over charcoal. I reckon using wood will be even more rewarding because of the aromatic smoke of burning wood. Haha, but we will become like our ancient forefathers.

A lot of food and about 6 cups of coke later, we all went into the house. The girls watched TV and chatted while me and my cousin tried to help format my aunt’s computer. Th hard disk cannot be detected by the XP installation CD. I and my cousin agreed that removing the hard disk and connecting it to another computer as slave will work. However, its troublesome and requires a lot of time, which we don’t have, considering that it was already about 9 pm plus and we have to get back to JB. So we didn’t do it. My aunt’s family is left to endure the spyware problem.

Thats all. Sorry if this post sounds generic, I am somehow preoccupied. By the music I am listening to maybe. Beautiful and dramatic operatic pop pieces.

Gathering with Friends

15 12 2006

Went out with some friends today. One friend who transfered to Ipoh since we were standard 4 came back to JB. So we went out and met up. I was the only boy in the entire group. Stuck out like a sore thumb… Anyway, we caught a movie. Eragon it was due to the girls’ suggestions… A good movie overall, but a bit on the short side… Something which I think historical war films should not be. Would be better if they took a leaf out of Lord of the Ring’s book. After all, it featured only ONE battle.

Before the movie, there was some mixup and a girl who told me that she wasn’t coming called and told us that she’s coming after all. We booked an extra ticket for her. When she was finally there, her mother told us that she will not be staying for the movie because she has got tution afterwards. Well, we were quite confused and managed to persuade her mother that skipping one lesson is okay. So she watched the movie and the ticket didn’t go to waste.

We had KFC for lunch and it was not really tasty, maybe its because of the preparation? Because last time I checked, their products in Singapore are much nicer…

Good book. Masterful writing.

12 12 2006

Just finish reading a new book I bought the day before. It was a thriller about the escapades of a band of urban explorers a.k.a creepers (this is quoting the book). These group of people breaks into abandoned (supposedly) buildings to so-call study the history of the building. Listen to the stories the buildings have to tell.

In the civilised world of today, activities of this order is most likely illegal. You don’t break into other’s property, Period. But another even severe consequence that these explorers have to face is the unknown things the areas explored have to offer. Some buildings are abandoned for a reason. That’s the punchline of the book.

The plot aside, the writing involved in creating this piece of literary work is masterful. Quoting praise for the “Creepers” from Publishers Weekly, ‘A gripping story that demands to be read in a single sitting…’. That sentence sheds some light on the tremendous amount of suspense featured in the novel by David Morrell.

A fine read it is, I have to concede. The writing is very descriptive, chilling the reader to the bone. Don’t read this at night is my advice. Even reading it in broad daylight is an adrenaline rush. A vivid image is projected to the reader, the gory scenes, the weakness of humanity, the hidden agendas are depicted all too clearly.

A good book to read, this is. And, yes, the author is David Morrell.

Holidays=Less action ??? And where has free speech gone?

4 12 2006

All right. Had been in “holiday mode” for a little over a month now.

One thing I noticed is that during holidays everything seems much slower… Less traffic on blogs… New posts are few and far between… Yeah, thats the gist of it.

Maybe all of us are enjoying ourselves immersed in the slow living pace of holidays? Maybe… From the enthusiasm when I started blogging to this slow casual pace with which I blog now… Is it because of the holidays? Or is it the excitement wearing off? Hehe. And unlike Chern Yuen, I don’t get ACE points for blogging… haha.

To me, my blog is my space, a space where I voice my opinions. Opinions do vary quite a lot from person to person… And politicians frequently employ propaganda to influence others. If they can do this, why can’t we?

Just heard something about the Malaysian government trying to monitor all blogs in order to prevent others from posting speech that may affect the peace between the peoplo of the country. Or is it something else? If this is true and I have heard correctly, I have some opinions to voice.

My take on this issue is that, yes, you can monitor the blogs, but an accurate measure of whats “offensive” or “affects the peace” must be set. But chances are the officials employed to evaluate the blogs will have bias… These things are somewhat subjective, unless a set of rules can be drawn up, and carved in stone (not literary eh? Its not the Code of Hammurabi… Just that it must be observed), I don’t think this policy will have much effect on maintaining “peace”
